It was a night to celebrate the YWCA and 500 community-minded guests, the largest crowd in the event’s history, attended the Persimmon Ball, on a recent Friday evening at the Hyatt Regency Hotel.

The event, themed Tales of the South Pacific, was a black-tie dinner dance honoring past board chairs Catherine Seasonwein, Karen Neilinger and Pamela Lewanda and celebrating the YWCA’s 95 years of community service.

United States senator Richard Blumenthal attended the event and praised the YWCA for the important role it has played in the lives of Greenwich people.

Serving as co-chairs of the ball were YWCA Greenwich Board members Sabrina Forsythe, Tracy Holton, Joy Lautenbach, Shelly Tretter Lynch, Alka Thukral, Board Chair Aundrea Amine and Natalie Quigley.

This year, the Persimmon Ball featured a gourmet banquet, music by the Short Bus Band, Polynesian dancers, and live and silent auctions. At the auction, attendees ran up the bidding on exclusive items including a vacation at a waterfront home in Cartagena, Colombia, winery tours, a safari and more.

“Thanks to our hard-working co-chairs, Persimmon Ball was a most successful event for a very important cause,” said Adrianne Singer, YWCA President and CEO.

“Proceeds from this, our largest fund-raiser, will enable the YWCA to provide a wide range of free services to victims of domestic violence; grant scholarships to our children in preschool, summer camps, after-school and aquatic programs; and offer the community free racial justice initiatives and women’s leadership seminars.”
