The birds are back in town

FI-Letter-to-the-EditorTo the Editor

You can call it springtime (or maybe even a case of fowl play because the life on the Greenwich waterfront is once again teeming).

Yellow birds, red birds, blue herons, swans, geese a-laying are all back. The robins are building nests in trim tabs, garages or lamp fixtures — anywhere they can to avoid predators. My advice would be to close all garage doors and batten down the hatches until this mating season passes. Clearly the habitat is better along the Long Island Sound after years of banning pesticides and cleaning up effluents in the LI Sound.

We should offer praise for the environmentalists and welcome back to all birds on land and sea — snowbirds too. Those who are full-time Connecticut residents and taxpayers do wish those smart snowbirds would stay and get involved in lowering taxes which are driving out-of-state migration.
