News of groundbreaking research in the battle against Alzheimer’s disease continues to make national headlines and The Alzheimer’s Association’s Connecticut chapter hopes to continue in the fight against the disease.

The organization is looking to the community to help raise money at its fundraiser, Celebrating Hope 2014, at Richards of Greenwich on Friday, June 13 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

The night will feature cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, entertainment and a silent auction. The ticket price, $167 per person, is designed to highlight the breadth of the disease. Guests are encouraged to wear the Alzheimer’s signature purple to the event and bid on items such as tropical vacation getaways, luxury accessories, and much more.

Last year, the Fairfield County community including sponsors, committee members and more than 300 guests, demonstrated their support by raising $100,000 to benefit the chapter’s local programs, services and research. The hope is surpass that success this year.

“We plan to build upon the momentum from last year’s inaugural event,” said Alzheimer’s Association Connecticut Chapter Executive Director, Eleonora Tornatore-Mikesh. “This year’s event committee, led by co-chairs Cristin Marandino and Lynn Hagerbrant, has doubled in size and we are energized by the increased support which enables us to reach an even larger audience.”

Alzheimer’s disease is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States and it is a disease that cannot be prevented or cured. Every 67 seconds someone in the United States develops Alzheimer’s. In Connecticut, there are more than 72,000 people affected by Alzheimer’s disease.

Proceeds from Celebrating Hope 2014 will support the Alzheimer’s Association, Connecticut Chapter’s local programs, services and research.
