At Eastern: Von Hollen named asst. principal

Superintendent of Schools Roger Lulow has announced the appointment of Joanna Von Hollen as Assistant Principal for Eastern Middle School effective July 1.

Ms. Von Hollen has been with the Greenwich Public Schools for seven years as a social studies teacher and won’t have to move very far into her new office. She is already teaching at Eastern.

“Ms. Von Hollen impressed us, not only with her content knowledge, but also with her in-depth understanding and articulation of data, instructional best practices, and vision for the students and the school,” Dr. Lulow said. “Her experience with the Eastern community and working with Principal Ralph Mayo as an administrator intern will help to ensure a smooth leadership transition.”

Ms. Von Hollen began teaching social studies in town in 2005 at Central Middle School. In 2006, she transferred to Eastern, where she has spent the last six years. She completed a two-year administrator internship with Mr. Mayo in May.

“The breadth and depth of Ms. Von Hollen’s knowledge, her ability to articulate that knowledge and her interpersonal communication skills are all exemplary,” Mr. Mayo said. “In every setting, I am invariably impressed with the high level of skill she possesses, and the high quality of her interactions with her colleagues, her students and their parents.”

Ms. Von Hollen received a B.A. in Social Science and Public and Community Service Studies from Providence College, Providence, R.I. in 2004, an M.A.T. in Secondary Education from Sacred Heart University, Fairfield in 2005, and completed her 6th Year Degree in Educational Leadership at the University of Connecticut, Storrs in 2012.
