The Greenwich High School softball team played back-to-back games to start the week and were victorious both times, blanking Bridgeport Central 11-0 on Monday and taking the 18-1 victory against Warren Harding High School yesterday.

Against the Presidents yesterday, Greenwich scored four runs in the first inning, two more in the second, five times in the third inning and blew the game open with seven runs in the fourth inning.

Rebecca DeCarlo finished 2-for-2 with three RBIs, while Dakota Sarcone went 2-for-3 with three runs batted in. Cate Decker finished 3-for-5 with 1 RBI and Bailey Robben went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Teammate Jen Ambrogio went 3-for-4 with a run batted in, while Katie Piro finished 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Erin White contributed by going 2-for-5 with an RBI and Dominique Gambino went 1-for-2 with two runs batted in.

In addition to her stellar work at the plate, Piro was solid on the mound. In five innings of work, she struck out three batters and walked only one.

On Monday, the Lady Cardinals started the week off with a 11-0 shutout of the Hilltoppers and was led by starting pitcher Jessie Schelz. Schelz struck out 12 batters and didn’t allow a walk during her time on the mound.

At the plate, DeCarlo was lights out, finishing 2-for-3 with three runs batted in. Erin Ferguson finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Madison Burhans went 3-for-4 with one RBI. Ambrogio finished 3-for-5 with one RBI and Kaitlyn Gowans rounded out the scoring by going 2-for-4 with an RBI.

With the two victories, Greenwich upped its record to 12-3 overall and 10-3 in FCIAC. If the season ended today, the Cardinals currently sit as the No. 5 seeded team in the FCIAC.
