Greenwich boys tennis outlasts Fairfield Ludlowe in thriller 4-3

It wasn’t easy, but the Greenwich High School boys tennis team was able to get the points when it mattered most and pull off the 4-3 victory over Fairfield Ludlowe High School Monday afternoon.

With the score knotted a 3-3, the Greenwich High doubles team of Tyler Dagnino and Max Minichetti were the deciding match and defeated Ludlowe’s Jeff Pearson and John Balsinger 6-7, 6-3, 6-3 to clinch the team victory for the Cardinals.

Also in doubles, the GHS duo of Shaw Speer and Louis McKenzie continued its undefeated season with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Ethan King and Sarthak Bothra.

At No. 1 singles, Greenwich’s Ari Cepelewicz took care of Ludlowe’s Connor Doyle 6-1, 6-2. However, Fairfield was able to score a victory at No. 2 singles, beating Greenwich’s Chris Salisbury 6-2, 6-4. Ludlowe kept the good times rolling at No. 3 singles, as Parker Doyle beat Greenwich’s Dickon Hollister 6-0, 1-6, 6-4.

Greenwich’s Marcos Eslava had the same fate as his teammate did at No. 3 singles because he fell to Ludlowe’s Alex Slobin 6-1, 1-6, 3-6.

Greenwich other singles victory came at No. 5 singles, as Axel Hebrand took care of Alex Barker 6-3, 6-0.

With the victory, Greenwich upped its regular season record to 11-1 overall and will be back in action later on today when they host Stamford High School on Senior Day.
