Greenwich Academy golf team upends town rival Sacred Heart

The Greenwich Academy golf team battled through the cold and damp conditions at the Fairview Country Club and beat town rivals Convent of the Sacred Heart 4 1/2 – 1/2 yesterday afternoon.

At No. 1, Greenwich Academy’s Susana Vik upended Sacred Heart’s Christie Huchro 5 & 3. Not to be outdone was Rachel Oates, who beat Mimi Dunn by the same 5 & 3 score.

GA’s Caroline Zhao finished off Grace Campbell at the No. 3 position with a 4 & 2 score. Hope Matthew’s had the same outdone at Zhao, as she was victorious against Sacred Heart’s Kelly McLaughlin 4 & 2.

The match between Sacred Heart’s Ally Becker and Greenwich Academy’s Ellie Garland was halved.

The win moved the Gators to 14-0 overall and 7-0 in the FAA, while the Tigers fell to 7-8 overall.

Both teams will be back in action on Monday when they travel to the Watertown Golf Club for competition in the annual Pippy O’Connor Invitational. Greenwich Academy will be looking to defend its New England championship at the event.
