Avon Theatre and Alliance Francaise present film schedule

There’s no shortage of movies for French film buffs to enjoy this season. From May, running through July, the Avon Theatre and the Alliance Francaise of Greenwich (AFG) present new digital presentations of three popular films.

At the popular Avon Theater, the AFG will sponsor showings of Betty (1992) on Thursday, May 15 at 7:30 p.m.; The Torment (1994) on Thursday, June 12 at 7:30 p.m. ans The Swindle (1997) on Thursday, July 10 at 7:30 p.m.

Betty is the story of a young alcoholic woman who is caught cold while cheating on her bourgeois husband. The film is shown in French with English subtitles, with a runtime of 103 minutes.

The Torment (L’Enfer) is directed and adapted by Claude Chabrol from the screenplay by Henri-Georges Clouzot for the unfinished film L’Enfer, which Clouzot began shooting in 1964 but was unable to complete. The film in shown in French with English subtitles and runs for 100 minutes.

The Swindle is Chabrol’s 50th film, made with the practiced ease of a master. The movie stars Isabelle Huppert and Michel Serrault as Betty and Victor. The film is in French with English subtitles and runs for  105 minutes.

Ticket prices are free for Carte Blanche members, $6 for Avon theatre or AFG members, $8 for students and seniors, and $11 for nonmembers. For tickets, call the Avon box office at 203-967-3660, ext. 2.
