Have a ‘Blast’ at the beach this Saturday

This year’s Greenwich Sand Blast at Tod’s Point Beach, co-hosted by the Greenwich Arts Council and the Department of Parks and Recreation, will bring together residents of all ages in a competition for the most spectacular sand sculptures.

The blast, scheduled for July 14, has been a popular community event for more than 20 years, regularly attracting hundreds of spectators. This year’s competition will not have a specific theme and participants are encouraged to indulge their imaginations, enjoying the experience of creating sand art.

“Our goal with Sand Blast and other events is to bring together neighborhood groups, local businesses, corporations and the residents of Greenwich for a fun and exciting display of artistic exploration highlighting what makes Greenwich a great place to live and work,” said Paul Master-Karnik, executive director of the Arts Council.

First County Bank is the presenting sponsor of the festival and additionally helps support the council’s enhanced arts education program.

“The Greenwich Arts Council is very happy to have First County Bank’s involvement in our organization. This money will help expand current and future art programs serving low-to-moderate income families who might not have access to arts education,” explained Mr. Master-Karnik. “We look forward to further developing our relationships with First County Bank and other private and public organizations around the area.”

“This is the third year First County Bank has supported this fun family event at Tod’s Point,” said Katherine Harris, president and chief operating officer of the bank. “What better way to spend a beautiful summer day than at the Greenwich Sand Blast event. This event celebrates the community while working together to increase awareness of the Greenwich Arts Council.”

The Sand Blast is scheduled to take place on Saturday, July 14, at 12:30 p.m. The rain date is Sunday, July 15, at 1:30 p.m. For information, call the Greenwich Parks & Recreation activities hotline at 203-618-7650.
