Brunswick School baseball blanks St. Luke’s 10-0

The Brunswick School baseball exploded out of the gates against St. Luke’s School and never looked back, scoring six runs in the bottom of the first inning and cruising to a 10-0 victory Monday afternoon.

Right from the start, the Bruins were on the attack and didn’t let up. Leading the way was Ryan Popp, who finished the day 2-for-3 including a long two-run homer over the centerfield wall and three runs batted in. Popp also scored twice. Not to be outdone was Teddy Sabato, who finished 1-for-1 with a double, a walk and two RBIs. Billy O’Malley added a double, three runs scored, one RBI and was hit by a pitch.

Kirk Meyer went a perfect 2-for-2, while Connor Redahan finished 1-for-1 with a walk and two runs scored. When it came to base running, Brunswick was aggressive. Teddy Maynard stole two bases, while Trevor Johnson, O’Malley and Meyer each successfully stole one.

On the mound, Will O’Brien was stellar. In five innings of work, O’Brien gave up three hits and no earned runs, while striking out five and walking three batters.

Brunswick did most of its damage in the first inning, scoring six times. Maynard led things off with a walk and Johnson reach after getting hit by a pitch. Redahan walked to load the bases and O’Malley was hit by a pitch to force home the first run of the game. The walk parade kept on rolling, as Sabato drew another base on balls to make the score 2-0.

Mike Marzonie came up next and got the Bruins’ first hit of the game, as he laced a single to left field that scored O’Malley and Redahan. Popp helped add to the lead when he smacked a single to left that drove home Sabato. Popp later came round to score when Meyer hit a single to third base to make the score 6-0.

With the victory, Brunswick upped its FAA record to 9-1 on the season.
