Greenwich Point swim set for Saturday

The Greenwich Point Swim on Saturday and the Volvo of Stamford Greenwich Cup Triathlon on July 29 are the next two upcoming events in the annual cup series of 10 races.

The Greenwich Point Swim begins at 7:30 a.m. at Tod’s Point in Old Greenwich. The entry fee is $50. Last year’s event had 167 finishers in the one-mile swim that was won by Trevor Healy with a time of 15 minutes, 50 seconds.

Thomas Dillinger was runner-up with a 15:47, Devon Healy was just one second behind Dillinger in third place, and Jessica Knapp was the female champion and sixth overall with a 17:24.

The Volvo of Stamford Greenwich Cup Triathlon also takes place at Tod’s Point.

It begins at 6:30 a.m. with a half-mile swim, follows with a 15-mile bicycle ride and concludes with a 3-mile run at Tod’s Point.

The entry fee is $89. Mitch West of Wilton won last year’s event with a 1:10:51, New York’s Shane Meehan placed second with a 1:12:50, and Kelli Montgomery of Wallingford was the female champion and seventh overall with a 1:16:33. Last year’s triathlon drew 354 total finishers, including 106 females.

The remaining four events in the annual series are the Volvo of Stamford Tour de Greenwich XXVIII at 7:30 a.m. on Sept. 16, Susannah’s Run at 9 a.m. on Oct. 14, the Beachfront Bushwhack/Max’s Mile at 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 11, and the Jingle Bell Jog at 9 a.m. on Dec. 9.
