Annual Mother’s Day Bike Ride to attract riders to Old Greenwich and Tod’s Point

For more than a decade, Greenwich families have woken up early on Mother’s Day to head out for a morning of fresh air, exercise and family fun at the Mother’s Day Bike Ride, a six-mile loop around Greenwich Point on May 11.

Started by Greenwich Safe Cycling as a way to raise bike safety awareness, the ever-growing event is now run by the Old Greenwich-Riverside Community Center (OGRCC). The Kids Ride supports Greenwich Safe Cycling and raises money for OGRCC children’s scholarships

“The Mother’s Day Bike Ride, now in its twelfth year, represents so many things that are great in Greenwich,” said OGRCC executive director Gina Gould. “Kids and adults coming out to enjoy the day, local small businesses meeting with local residents, and taking advantage of the beautiful scenery at Tod’s Point that we tend to take for granted.”

The ride will begin and end at Old Greenwich Elementary School. While the day is about having fun, bike safety is still an important message at the event. Many local bike shops will be on hand at registration to check out bikes, conduct safety inspections, check helmets and demonstrate bike safety practices.

Other local businesses will be at the school with giveaways, food, live music, sampling and more.

“With so many bikers living here, it makes sense to host this town-wide event here in Old Greenwich,” said Old Greenwich Association president David Rafferty “The OGRCC and our local merchants are both integral parts of our community, and each is doing a great job making sure this’ll be a terrific day for all riders.”

Online discounted pre-registration is now open at Tickets for adults are $10 and $5 for children under 12 years old. Cash-only sign-ups at the event will cost $15 and $10 respectively. Check-in at the school begins at 8:30 a.m. and the festivities will go on until 10:30 a.m.

The first 200 people to check-in receive a free event t-shirt.
