New generation of filmmakers featured at CSH film fest

A new generation of filmmakers with refreshing perspectives will be featured at Convent of the Sacred Heart’s Fifth Annual Film Festival on Wednesday, April 30, from 6 to 8 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public. All are invited to view the new documentaries, creative videos and public service announcements produced by 55 Upper School students in Sacred Heart’s broadcast program.

Doors open at 6 p.m. and refreshments will be available. The show will start at 6:30 p.m, and awards will be presented later that evening.

The film festival will be judged by industry experts, including Sadé Clacken Joseph, Todd Leatherman, Lauren Banta Naylor and Rob Naylor.

Ms. Clacken Joseph is the assistant to the producers at The View on ABC. She also freelances as a photographer, cinematographer, film producer and composer. After graduating from Convent of the Sacred Heart in 2007, Ms. Joseph went on to receive her bachelor’s degree in anthropology, film studies and political science from Columbia University. In 2012, she assistant produced a Lifetime Achievement Award piece on The View’s executive producer Bill Geddie, for the Daytime Emmy Awards. That same year she also produced her first feature film Stills  with director Sheyne Lee Benoit.

She is currently working on her first feature documentary Dreamers , which will focus on the lives of several undocumented youth in New York City.

Mr. Leatherman is an independent filmmaker based in Brooklyn, NY. He has contributed to various projects for National Geographic, Nat Geo Wild, PBS, BBC America and Ted Talks. He recently served as the primary camera operator, assistant editor and production coordinator on The Notorious Mr. Bout, which premiered in the World Cinema Documentary Competition at the Sundance Film Festival in 2014.

Ms. Naylor launched her career when she directed, produced, and edited the award-winning documentary, The Kiely Family, about the lives of foster care children living Texas. She then went on to become the associate producer for ABC’s The View, as well as CNN’s Paula Zahn Now.

Mr. Naylor is an Emmy-nominated producer and editor for ABC’s The View. He is also the owner and executive producer of Very Smart Productions, which produces shows for ESPN, EA Sports, and HDTV. Other television credits include directing The Chappelle Show and The Onion Sports Network for Comedy Central.
