Aquarion Water Company offers rain barrels to Greenwich customers

To aid water conservation efforts, Aquarion Water Company will be selling recycled rain barrels to its Connecticut customers.

According to the company, “rain barrels are an efficient and effective way to store rain water for later use by collecting rain and runoff from a roof or downspout.” Aquarion provides water to much of Fairfield County, including Greenwich.

This is being done to help provide a source of water, particularly for yard work. The barrels can provide a free, ready source of water for filling watering cans, connecting a garden hose, feeding a drip irrigation system and other outdoor chores as spring really begins and gardens need tending to.

“We are pleased to be able to offer our customers the opportunity to conserve water and save money through the use of rain barrels,” said Charles Firlotte, Aquarion’s president and CEO. “Using rain barrels can also help to mitigate pollution in Connecticut’s water supplies by limiting storm water runoff.”

Just one 60-gallon recycled food-grade barrel can consistently irrigate a 100 square foot garden.

“Rain barrels can help to greatly reduce water consumption during the warmer summer months,” Mr. Firlotte added.

Aquarion is selling the rain barrels to its customers at a cost of $75, which they say is a better deal when compared to the retail price of $125. To find out more and order a barrel, visit Aquarion’s website Aquarionwater.com or call Skyjuice New England at 207-363-1505.

The deadline for ordering is Saturday, May 3. The barrels, which fit in the back seat of most cars, will be available for pickup on Saturday, May 10, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Noroton Heights train station parking lot located at 0 Ledge Road, Darien (next to Darien Emergency Medical Services building), or on Saturday, May 17, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Trumbull Town Hall, 5866 Main Street, Trumbull.
