Greenwich High girls tennis starts season with 7-0 win over Danbury

The Greenwich High School girls tennis team began its quest for a championship season by blanking Danbury High School 7-0 earlier today.

At No. 1 singles, Big Red’s Anna Daccache beat Siri Shillara 6-1, 6-0, while Maddie Arnold took care of Aiylnn Suarez 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles.

Not to be outdone was Maitlyn Murphy, as she won her No. 3 singles match against Natersna Puikalski 6-3, 6-1. At No. 4 singles, Isabelle Janssen beat Danbury’s Kara Thorne, 6-0, 6-0.

The Lady Cardinals also swept all three doubles matches. Leading the way was the team of Julia Ackerman and Lizzie Griffin, as they finished all Rihanna Hanna and Katie Colucci 6-0, 6-0. At No. 2 doubles, Greenwich was paced by Lena Schipper and Reilly Sheets, as they beat Danbury’s Brianna Schorr and Natalie Mattheus by the same 6-0, 6-0 score.

Rounding out the day was the GHS team of Camila Akerman and Julia Bunte, as they finished off Malken Skring and Anajail Pai 6-1, 6-3.

With the victory, Big Red improved to 1-0 on the season.
