Francophiles celebrated Oscar Night and the launch of the inaugural Greenwich International Film Festival (GIFF) at party at the J-House on March 2.

The sold-out event, An Evening with Oscar, was sponsored by Moët Hennessy, Serendipity Magazine, Houlihan Lawrence and Wheels Up. The night featured coverage of the Academy Awards as well as live entertainment including an illusionist, contortionists and a live band.

The night also served as the official launch for the the three-day film festival in Greenwich, with the date announced at the party for June 5 to 7, 2015. The schedule will include an opening night gala, more than 20 screenings a day, exclusive VIP services, and a closing ceremony that will honor some of the best in film.

According to the organizers, the mission of the Festival is to use film to “spread awareness of critical issues facing society today, harnessing the capacity of film to serve the greater good while always remembering the power of entertainment and laughter in lifting the human spirit.”

“We are thankful for all of the support we have received from the town, local businesses, our sponsors and Greenwich residents. The town has really embraced us and we are humbled by the response,” said Wendy Reyes, Executive Director of the GIFF, in a press release.

The festival will also host year round screenings, events and panels. The Greenwich International Film Festival hopes to engage local universities and educational institutions, and ultimately create partnerships between filmmakers, film lovers, and film financiers.

GIFF was founded by Carina Crain, Colleen deVeer and Wendy Stapleton Reyes as a not-for-profit event celebrating the art of visual storytelling.
