Earth Day kickoff set for Sunday at Greenwich Point

Greenwich students will have a chance to celebrate Earth Day a little early and keep the observance going all month long.

At a special event on Sunday, April 6, there will be a town sponsored kickoff to Earth Day Month at the Seaside Center at Innis Arden Cottage, which is located at Greenwich Point. The event is co-sponsored by the town and Greenwich’s PTA Council’s Green Schools committee.

Those participating can work on dune planting from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and beach cleanup from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be a shellfish demonstration at noon and at 1 p.m. First Selectman Peter Tesei will be on hand to deliver a Earth Day Month proclamation.

There will also be the First Sunday Science lesson at the Seaside Center for hands-on “Wonders of Water” activities from 1:30 to 4 p.m.

This event is set for people of all ages, and will feature participation from the town’s Conservation Commission, Greenwich Community Gardens, PTAC Green Schools, Audubon Greenwich, the town’s Shellfish Commission, the Bruce Museum and other local environmental partners.

Check-in will be at the Seaside Center at Innis Arden Cottage and the event will take place rain or shine.
