At the United States Swimming Eastern Zone Short Course Swimming Championships held on March 28, YWCA Greenwich Dolphins swim team’s Meghan Lynch, 10, posted her first National Age Group Record of her young career, a 1:08.07 clocking in the 100-yard breaststroke

Lynch joined the Dolphins at five-years old and developed under the guidance of head coach Nick Cavataro. She also trains with the Dolphins assistant coach Jeremy Cochran.

The 10-year old Greenwich resident shattered the former mark of 1:09.79 held by Annie Zhu, then of the LaGuardia Aquatic Club of New York, N.Y.

In the first day of action at the zone meet, Lynch won the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 31.82 and the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:15.00, narrowly missing a national age group records in both events.

Lynch also anchored the Connecticut¬† Zone squad’s 200-yard free relay with a time of 25.62. The team took home the gold at 1:47.09. In other action during the second day, Lynch won the 100-yard individual medley at 1:03.70 and the 200-yard freestyle at 2:02.50.

Two weeks ago at the Connecticut State Age Group Championships, Lynch claimed 10 gold medals, including six individual in the 10-and-under class. She won the 10-and-under 50-yard breaststroke (32.76); 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.69); 100-yard individual medley (1:04.54); 200-yard individual medley (2:20.25); 200-yard freestyle (2:04.15) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:39.74) as well as four relay titles with YWCA Greenwich Dolphins.

Lynch still has a full summer long course season with an Aug. 3 birthday, so there still may be some more records to come.

The YWCA Greenwich Dolphins are a nationally ranked U S Swim Team with 230 members aged five to 18 years. Evaluations and tryouts for the 2014-15 team will be held at the YWCA in early September, 2014.
