Greenwich residents are invited to stand against racism with the YWCA Greenwich on Friday, April 25, as it raises awareness of racial justice and celebrates community diversity.

The organization will celebrate its fifth annual YWCA Stand Against Racism Day at Town Hall’s Meeting Room, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. State and local dignitaries will attend, Greenwich High School students will speak and the First Baptist Church Choir will contribute musical selections.

“Our Stand Against Racism program supports our core mission of eliminating racism,” said President and CEO of YMCA Greenwich Adrianne Singer, in a press release. “Last year, 59 organizations joined us as Participating Sites, including every public school, and we look forward to more partners supporting this important 2014 effort. Bigotry and hatred have no place in this community,” she continued.

Any organization or resident can be a partner in the effort by becoming a participating site. To become a participating site, visit Standagainstracism.org, click on “Become a Participating Site,” and complete the form.

Participation is free and all volunteers receive free pins, bookmarks, posters, and detailed instructions on how to run a Stand Against Racism event. According to the YWCA, No participating site can be too small and a “stand” can be anything from a gathering of office workers, a classroom project or even a group of people wearing their pins for the day.
