Saturday youth choir concert will ‘pop’

Be prepared for a musical history lesson this coming Sunday when the Second Congregational Church’s Youth Choir performs a special program called 100 Years of Pop Songs.

At this event, which will begin at 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 22, at the church, which is located at 139 East Putnam Avenue, the youth choir will perform songs spanning a century. And it won’t just be a musical event either as dinner will be included in what’s being called a “pop pasta concert” by the church.

A donation of $10 per person is suggested to attend the event. Proceeds will benefit the church’s Youth Choir programs.

Things will kick off with a pasta dinner at 6 p.m. and then, at 7  p.m., the choir, which has sung at The Vatican, Graceland and the Grand Ole Opry, will perform favorite pop songs dating back to 1913. Selections will include classics like Danny Boy and High Hopes to more recent hits like American Idol winner Phillip Phillips’ Home and songs from Walt Disney movies all the way up to the recent smash Frozen.

Dessert will  be served at 8 p.m.

For reservations,  contact Gloria LaDestro, church office manager, at [email protected] or 203-869-9311, ext. 20.
