The Gertrude G. White Art Gallery is presenting the first solo show of Eric Jiaju Lee, a Greenwich native and resident.

Discreet Divinations will run from March 1 through March 31, with a reception on Saturday, March 15 from 1 to 3 p.m.

Mr. Lee grew up in Cos Cob and graduated from the Brunswick School. After living in New York City and abroad to pursue his life as an artist, Mr. Lee has recently returned and is exhibiting in his hometown for the first time.

The exhibit will showcase a selection of paintings from the past few years of Mr. Lee’s work. Mr. Lee’s signature style involves the pouring, dripping, staining and brushing of acrylic paint onto the finest quality silk personally sourced in Hangzhou, China. Often very colorful, the paintings take place on irregular and uniquely shaped formats such as the Chinese fan shape.

Two of these style of works were recently commissioned by the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group for their Las Vegas hotel where Mr. Lee’s paintings are hung in prominent view. One of the pieces serves as the hotel’s brand logo.

Mr. Lee’s work is an intersection of contemporary abstraction and traditional Chinese painting, where both are inspired by nature and expressed with a lyrical sensibility. The organic forms suggest the world of the microscopic as well as the macro world of outer space.

Mr.  Lee exhibits regularly both locally and abroad, with works belonging to numerous private and corporate collections internationally. The recipient of numerous awards and honors, Mr. Lee is a professor of fine arts, an independent curator and a guest lecturer at museums and institutions in the greater New York area.
