It’s time for the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference postseason hockey to kick into high gear and the Greenwich High School Cardinals will be looking to make some noise in the Division I tournament, which gets underway Wednesday afternoon.

Big Red will enter the Division I tournament with a 9-10-1 overall record and occupy the No. 13 seed. While Greenwich won’t have to travel too far for its opening round game, they will be playing perennial powers Darien High School.

The Blue Wave are the No. 4 seed in the Division I tournament and come into the state tournament with a regular season record of 17-2-1. The game will be played at the Darien Ice Rink Wednesday and will get underway around 8 p.m.

The winner of the Greenwich versus Darien game, a battle between two FCIAC foes, might get to see another familiar face, as they would face the winner of Ridgefield and South Windsor. Ridgefield (16-4-0) is the No. 5 seed in the Division I tournament, while South Windsor (8-10-2) grabbed the 12th seed.

The quarterfinal game will be played at the higher seeded team’s venue and will take place Saturday.

Greenwich’s start time for the opening round game is at 8 p.m. because another state tournament game will take place in the Darien Ice Rink, as No. 7 seed New Canaan High School will host 10th seed Northwest Catholic at 6 p.m.

The Rams enter the tournament with a regular season record of 15-4-1, while Northwest Catholic comes into the game with a 10-8-2 regular season record.

Overall, Notre Dame-Fairfield is the top seed in the Division I tournament, entering with a 15-4-1 regular season record. Not to be outdone is Notre Dame-West Haven, as the take the second seed with a 13-5-1 mark. The Jesuits of Fairfield Prep (12-4)  are third-seeded.
