FCIAC honors Greenwich High School at annual banquet

The Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference held its annual banquet on June 12 and several Greenwich High coaches were honored.

During the fall season, GHS head coach Bill Mongovan was honored as the cross-country coach of the year. In the winter season, Evan Dubin was named the indoor trach coach of the year. Joining him for the winter season was first-year head girls ice hockey coach Brett Farson, who was named girls ice hockey coach of the year.

In the spring season, Pete Georiou was named boys volleyball coach of the year and Mike Mora was named FCIAC baseball coach of the year.

In addition, Mora was also named the overall spring season coach of the year.

The GHS athletic program received the prestigious FCIAC Cup, presented to the top athletic program in the conference. The award is based on athletic participation, scholarship, competitive results and service to the conference.

“We have had an outstanding year and I am very proud of our accomplishments,” Greenwich High athletic director Gus Lindine said. “We are fortunate to have outstanding coaches, terrific student athletes and a community that is very spoortive. It was a really special year for our Greenwich High School sports program.”
