Upcoming family, children’s events announced

The Bruce Museum has several programs of special interest to children in the coming weeks, beginning March 12.

Look and See: In the Dark! will be offered on Wednesday, March 12, from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m. It’s a program particularly designed for children ages three to five years and their parents/guardians. Visitors will explore the museum’s exhibition through hands-on experiences, stories and then craft their own nocturnal animal.

Tickets are $5 for members, and $7 for non-members. Parents/guardians attend free.

On Sunday, March 30, from 1 to 4 p.m. the Museum offers Animals of the Dark Family Day. Families will explore the Museum’s In the Dark exhibition together to find out which animals survive best at nighttime, and will make their own night creature crafts.

As part of the event, at 2 p.m. and again at 4, animal specialist Rob Mies from the Organization for Bat Conservation presents Live Night Creatures, a talk about animals that live in the night such as owls, bats and sloths. All activities are suitable for children of all abilities ages five years and up.

The talk is free with museum admission.

After-school art classes for children ages six to eight years old will be held at the Bruce Museum on Thursdays, April 3, 10, 24, May 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29, from 3:45 to 5 p.m. In this eight-session course, presented by the Greenwich Arts Society and led by Greenwich Arts Society instructor Kathie Milligan, students will experience a wide variety of art media including painting, with techniques inspired by the exhibition, Pasture to Pond: Connecticut Impressionism.

Class size is limited and the cost is $375 per student, which includes all materials.
