Murphy Brothers receives award

More than 150 people from local businesses recently watched as the first annual Family-Owned Business Award was presented to Greenwich residents Chris and Sean Murphy, of Murphy Brothers Contracting, by the Westchester Business Journal.

Family-owned companies were grouped according to length of time in business with award categories for companies 51 years and older, 26 years to 50 years, and five to 25 years in business.

Starting out as a local remodeling company in 1979, Murphy Brothers has expanded to custom home construction, whole home renovation and light commercial construction projects, including golf, boating, beach and tennis clubs, throughout southern Fairfield County and the Westchester Hudson Valley region.

The company offers its clients general contracting, construction management and owner representative services.

The judges were Anthony Davidson, Dean of the school of Graduate and Professional Studies at Manhattanville College, Marsha Gordon, president and CEO of The Business Council of Westchester, and John Ritacco, president and CEO of CMS Bank.

The other winners were Red Oak Transportation in the 51 year and older category, and Adcorp Media Group in the 5 to 25 year category.
