Eagle Hill’s youngest students were able to meet author and illustrator Alyssa Capucilli and read along with some of her popular books on Thursday, Jan. 30.

Ms. Capucilli, who has written children’s books Tulip Loves Rex, the Biscuit stories, My Dad and Me, talked about the process of putting a book together from start to finish.

She shared stories of how she writes and where she draws inspiration.

She also displayed photos of her daughter in early poses for the first Biscuit book, and then showed the students a book laid flat before being cut and stapled.

Ms. Capucilli was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and became a professional dancer and dance instructor before realizing her dream of becoming an author.

Since 1994, she has written dozens of books for children, and her work has been translated into many languages.
