Father’s Forum focuses on Internet safety

If you’re worried about the dangers of the Internet when it comes to your children, then the next Father’s Forum meeting could well have the information you’re looking for.

This Saturday, March 1, at 8:15 a.m. at the YMCA of Greenwich, the Fathers’ Forum will presents Internet Safety for Parents.

Greenwich Police Department Det. Christy Girard will lead an interactive session on Internet safety. Det. Girard, a Greenwich resident and mother of two, is a certified Internet Crimes Against Children Detective and will discuss the role of digital technologies in children’s social lives as well as strategies for preventing and dealing with the high risk threats.

Since texting, digital photos/videos, social networking sites and email are critical to how kids communicate today, there are concerns about how the Internet impacts kids as young as kindergarten age. Attendees will have Det. Girard take them through a live session about how to communicate with kids about Internet safety and how to safeguard them against risky behavior online.

People are invited to bring their  laptops, smart phones and tablets to the session. There will be time set aside for Det. Girard to show people how to install protective software and adjust settings on their personal device.
