Help local boys ‘scout for food’ on Saturday, March 1, at a food drive for charity.

Thanks to the leadership of honorary chair State Rep. Fred Camillo (R-151st), the Greenwich Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts will collect food from local residents to benefit nonprofit organization Neighbor to Neighbor. From 9 to 11:30 a.m. on March 1, food donations can be brought to one of the four drop-off locations in town.

Those drop off spots are the Glenville Vol. Fire Co., at 266 Glenville Road, the Cos Cob Vol. Fire Co., at 200 East Putnam Avenue, the Sound Beach Vol. Fire Dept., at 207 Sound Beach Avenue and Christ Church’s first floor Parish House, at 254 East Putnam Avenue.

Residents are encouraged to drop off non-expired items such as canned beans (other than green), canned fruit, tuna, boxed milk, pasta sauce, jelly, peanut butter and more. All donated food will be sorted and then delivered by the Scouts to Neighbor to Neighbor. The boys are hoping to surpass last year’s record of nearly two tons of crates of food.

The food drive has been the Scouts’ largest annual service event for more than three decades. This year, Greenwich Scouting is again partnering with Neighbor to Neighbor, located at Christ Church, to help fill the increasing need for food for families in the area, especially during non-holiday times like March.

Neighbor to Neighbor provides nutritious meals monthly for over 650 local families through their food pantry where clients actually have the opportunity to do their own shopping at the food pantry. Roughly 47% of the food provided by Neighbor to Neighbor feeds children.
