Kids get up close at Touch a Truck

GL-FTR-Touch-a-Truck-BIf you’ve ever been with a kid and just couldn’t stop them from grabbing everything in sight, then the June 10 Touch a Truck was just the right kind of event for them.

Children of all ages were on hand for the event in the Town Hall parking lot and at Havemeyer Field. Sponsored by the Junior League of Greenwich, Touch a Truck allowed kids to get a first hand view of emergency vehicles and learn more about them literally through “hands on” experience.

Kids got a chance to not only see up close police vehicles, fire trucks and Greenwich Emergency Medical Services ambulances, but to get in the driver’s seat and see that what they associate with loud sirens isn’t so scary after all. They also rode in a cherry picker and construction vehicles from some local firms.

Kids enjoyed a chance to get up close and personal with some animal friends as well, checking out everything from bunnies to snakes as part of a live animal demonstration from Party Safari. There was even a train rolling through courtesy of the Roaming Railroad.
