Sacred Heart wins final regular season game of the hoops season

The Convent of the Sacred Heart basketball team finished the regular season in grand style earlier today by beating Masters School, 66-30.

Leading 33-30 at the break, the Tigers upped the pressure in the second half and forced Masters to work harder for its baskets. Emily O’Sullivan was a big contributor to the Tigers’ victory, as she netted 21 of her 25 points in the second half, but also grabbed 25 rebounds.

Teammate Colleen O’Neill added 13 points, seven rebounds and seven assists, while Claire O’Neill finished with 14 points, three rebounds and three assists.

“Masters played well,” CSH head coach Sean Green said. “They jumped on us from the beginning behind great penetration that got them to the foul line, where they made 17-for-24 shots. I was proud of how my team slowly stuck to the game plan and wore them down as the game progressed. We mixed defenses up throughout the game, just to give them different looks. We got great production from our core group and had some great help from our bench players.”

With the victory, Sacred Heart improved to 15-4 overall and 8-1 in the Fairchester Athletic Association. Up next for the Tigers will be Wednesday when they begin play in the FAA tournament quarterfinal round. With only one loss in league play, CSH earned the second seed in the upcoming tournament.
