Arts Council hosts classical performance

It will be an afternoon of music and discussion on Sunday, Feb. 16, with a presentation called Brahms, Mozart and The American Spirituals.

The event, which will take place at the Greenwich Arts Council in the second floor meeting room, is sponsored by the Foundation for the Revival of Classical Culture. It will feature a performance by 15-year-old Yaegy Park on violin of Brahms’ Violin Sonata #3 and by  Elizabeth Lyra-Ross, soprano, of selections of classical songs and American spirituals.

The concert will be on Sunday, Feb. 16, from 3 to 5 p.m.

Yaegy, who  was the youngest winner, at the age of four, of the Houston Young Artist Concert Audition in 2001 and, since then has since performed worldwide, winning prizes along the way and studying at Julliard’s elite pre-college school. She uses a half-size Testore violin made in the year 1724 and supported by the Kumho Asiana Cultural Foundation.

Ms. Lyra-Ross’ international career has included operatic performances — including appearances at the New York Metropolitan Opera — in Aida, Tosca, Madame Butterfly, and as both Bess and Serena in Porgy and Bess. Ms. Lyra-Ross was also nominated for an Emmy Award on the Live from Lincoln Center Series production of Porgy and Bess. There’s no fee and to attend the Feb. 16 concert and discussion, call 203-441-7488 to reserve a seat. This can also be done via email at [email protected]
