Women of Vision to honor Debbie Reynolds

On Wednesday, Feb. 19, Women of Vision Fairfield County (WoVFC) will honor Debbie Reynolds at their annual fund-raiser luncheon, Strong Women Strong World, at the Hyatt Regency in Old Greenwich.

Ms. Reynolds, founder of Greenwich Bible Study, will be honored with the Vision Award, which recognizes an individual who has made a significant contribution to advance humanitarian causes by exemplifying Christian values of sacrificial service and giving.

In addition to her work in Greenwich, Ms. Reynolds has recently returned from a Women of Vision trip to Sierra Leone. Along with other members of the Fairfield County chapter, she visited projects that support maternal and child health in that country, which has the highest global mortality rate for women and infants.

She visited her sponsored children there, traveled to rural health clinics and hospitals and even met with the First Lady of Sierra Leone, Sia Koroma.

Shayne Moore, activist, speaker and author, will deliver the keynote address for the event. Ms. Moore is best known for her books, Global Soccer Mom: Changing the World Is Easier Than You Think, and Refuse To Do Nothing; Finding Your Power to Abolish Modern Day Slavery.

Women of Vision is a volunteer ministry of World Vision that “educates, inspires, and equips women to use their God-given resources in compassionate service to impoverished and oppressed women and children worldwide.” World Vision is the largest Christian humanitarian organization in the world, dedicated to working with children, families, and their communities worldwide to reach their full potential by tackling the root causes of poverty and injustice.

The Fairfield County Chapter of Women of Vision is raising funds this year to support their projects locally at homeless shelters and internationally in 13 countries including Cambodia, Rwanda, Sierra Leone and Dominican Republic.
