With the regular season winding down, the Greenwich High School boys ice hockey team needs to pick up wins if they want to see postseason action. That’s exactly what they did earlier today at the Dorothy Hamill Ice Rink, as they stunned St. Joseph High School in overtime 3-2 to claim victory.

After a scoreless first period, Big Red got on the board when Luke Finneran netted a goal 4:53 into the second. The lead lasted 39 seconds, as Colin Powell scored the game-tying goal for St. Joseph.

The scoring in the second wasn’t done, as the Cardinals reclaimed the lead 9:13 into the period when Kevin Piotrzkowski found the back of the net. Again, St. Joe’s knotted the game with time winding down in the second period, as Powell got the puck from Sean Hurley and scored his second of the game.

With no scoring in the third period, it was Finneran who came up huge in overtime, as he got the puck from Ian Fulton and scored the game-winner 11:33 into overtime.

Greenwich finished with 45 shots on net while St. Joseph added 32 shots. In goal Greenwich’s Bryan Archino finished with 20 saves, while his counterpart Christian Furce grabbed 42.
