Local culinary pros to be honored at benefit

Greenwich knows quality cuisine and one of the town’s own, chef Rui Correia of Douro restaurant, will prove it on March 7 at the annual Great Chefs fund-raiser, where he will be honored for his work.

Chefs Christian Petroni of Fortina in Armonk, N.Y. and Greenwich resident Adam Truelove, of Napa & Co. in Stamford, will share the spotlight with Mr. Correia at the popular culinary event that benefits the community outreach services department at Greenwich Hospital.

“It is a great honor to be recognized at this event because not only is it about great food, it’s about giving back to the community,” said Mr. Correia, whose Portuguese-inspired cuisine has been drawing diners to his Greenwich Avenue location for the past two years. “Philanthropy has to be a part of any good business model and we are thrilled to help Greenwich Hospital in whatever way we can,” he added.

Now in its 29th year, Great Chefs is a feast that is expected to draw hundreds of guests from Fairfield and Westchester counties.

Guests will taste the talented creations of the honorees and the more than 50 chefs who will be on hand representing the finest restaurants and catering companies in both counties.

The fine food will be paired with drinks supplied by area wine and beverage distributors for the cocktail and dinner portions of the evening. Those in attendance will also be treated to imaginative live and silent auction packages that include private dinners prepared by the honorees and after dinner dancing.

Money raised at the event will benefit Community Health at Greenwich Hospital with vital funds to promote health throughout the community with support groups, health education programs, free health screenings and other outreach services.

“Our programs touch the lives of everyone from infants to the elderly,” said Kathy Carley-Spanier, director of Community Health at Greenwich Hospital.

“Whether we are teaching new parents how to care for their infants, educating children at school health fairs or offering support groups to people suffering from chronic illness, we provide a critical link to healthier living,” she added.

Great Chefs tickets are only sold in advance with levels of support including Sponsor at $750 or $7,500 for a table of 10; Patron at $500 or $5,000 for a table of 10; and Friend at $250 or $2,500 for a table of 10.
