Guitar in America on display Feb. 9

Take a walk through guitar history with Sunday Afternoon Live’s next series The Guitar in America.

On Sunday, Feb. 9 at 4 p.m., guitarist Peter Griggs will perform a variety of unique styles of American guitar music, including traditional finger-picking, ragtime, blues, jazz and popular song, and includes music by Robert Johnson, George Gershwin, Duke Ellington, Wes Montgomery and more.

Mr. Griggs is a guitarist and composer from New York City who has performed internationally. His repertoire is quite diverse, including classical music of all periods — from Renaissance to modern — as well as flamenco, jazz, Brazilian music and his own compositions.

The concert will be held in the First Congregational Church’s auditorium and refreshments will be served. Tickets are available at the door and are $20 per person. School-aged youth attend free.

This year’s season of Sunday Afternoons Live season is underwritten by the late Stella Miazga, a devotee of the series who generously bequeathed funds posthumously.

The First Congregational Church of Greenwich is located at 108 Sound Beach Avenue. More details about each program in this concert series can be found at Fccog.org/music/sunday-afternoons-live.
