Attention must be paid to Orchard Street

FI-Letter-to-the-EditorTo the Editor

As a lifelong Cos Cob resident, I am very happy to read about the proposed improvements to Cos Cob being considered.

However, that said, I would like to ask that consideration be made not only to the center, but the near center. I am speaking about Orchard Street. Orchard Street is the most traveled road in Cos Cob and, despite a 25 mph speed limit, there are often cars, giant dump trucks, pool water trucks (we all know the mermaid water trucks) and others going over 40 mph there.

Sometimes it’s more than double the speed limit. This is during all times of day, even when you have hordes of children going to and coming from school. We need to control the speed on Orchard Street somehow.

The town needs to install speed bumps, have a police presence doing radar or something. I have already been hit once by a speeding Arcuri’s pizza delivery man.

Let’s get in front of this problem now as we redesign Cos Cob.
