Darien Police catch Greenwich theives

A Darien Police officer spotted an SUV involved in an attempted Greenwich motorcycle theft driving through Darien late Monday night, and eventually arrested the driver in South Norwalk.

Police officers from multiple towns were searching for the vehicle, which was reported stolen around 9 Tuesday night.

Sgt. Jeremiah Marron, information officer for the Darien Police, said that Greenwich police sent out an alert over a hotline to other Fairfield County departments that a couple of individuals attempted to steal a motorcycle there.

They identified the get-away car as a Ford Explorer with stolen plates.

Marron said he alerted Darien officers working on the road, and Officer T.J. Whyte located the SUV on Tokeneke Road and began following it as it traveled toward Rowayton.

Marron said Whyte did not engage the car in a chase immediately, because typical procedure when there is a suspected felony is to wait for backup.

Whyte followed the car into South Norwalk.

“At this point, I was relaying location information to Norwalk over the hotline,” Marron said.

The vehicle was pulled over on Gray Rock Road in South Norwalk after sufficient backup arrived.

Marron said there were two people in the car. The passenger was so heavily under the influence of drugs or alcohol he needed immediate medical attention. The driver, George Buruca, 40, of Norwalk, was arrested by Darien police, and will face charges by both the Norwalk and Greenwich police departments, Marron said.

Calls to Norwalk Police were not immediately returned.
