The BET is taking sensitive care toward the Seton House

FI-Letter-to-the-EditorTo the Editor

I want to thank the Board of Estimate and Taxation for the sensitive care in approaching the dismantling of the Seton House.

The Seton House boasts a great deal of history through the owners. It is not only the Boys Scouts component but it is also the history of Grace Gallatin Seton, one of the leading suffragettes. There is additional history through the literary studies through the writings of Ernest Thompson Seton, his wife Grace and daughter Anya Seton, who wrote the Winthrop Women, and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Barbara Tuchman.

Additionally, American musical printing is represented through Alma Wertheim’s efforts in her founding of Cos Cob Press, the only publishing concern at the time who produced the music of Aaron Copland.

Recognizing and preserving our heritage of the past lets us know who we are and secures our future.
