Greenwich schools to dismiss early, after school activities cancelled

With the forecast calling for snow to become heavy later in the day, the Greenwich Public Schools will be dismissing students early on Tuesday and all after school activities have been cancelled. Hersam Acorn Radio will have the latest updates throughout the day at Greenwich-post.com.

The district announced Tuesday morning that all of the public schools will be dismissing two hours early. That means Greenwich High School students will be dismissed at 12:15 p.m. instead of 2:15 p.m. Eastern, Central and Western Middle Schools will dismiss at 12:35 p.m. For the elementary schools, Hamilton Avenue, Julian Curtiss and New Lebanon will dismiss at 12:45 and all the others, Cos Cob, Glenville, the International School at Dundee, North Mianus, North Street, Old Greenwich, Parkway and Riverside Schools, will dismiss at 1:15 p.m.

The district’s pre-K programs will also be dismissing early with students going home at 11:30 a.m.

This comes at a key time for high school students as this storm, which could well impact school on Wednesday, comes in the middle of mid-term examinations.

The expected snowstorm, which is expected to intensify throughout the day and could well cause a messy commute home tonight for Greenwich drivers, has already forced the postponement of Tuesday’s Representative Town Meeting meeting at Central Middle School. As of Tuesday morning there had still been no word if the Board of Estimate and Taxation will hold its regular meeting.
