Brunswick wrestling wins key match-up against Hackley, 39-30

In one of their biggest dual meets of the season, the Brunswick School wrestling team kept the good times rolling yesterday by hosting Hackley School and coming away with the thrilling 39-30 victory.

The Bruins set the pace right from the start, as Jimmy Bell netted a 23-7 technical falls victory over Steven Zak in the 132-pound weight class. Following Bell was Owen Schubert at 138, as the Wick grappler pinned Michael Tarantino 1:48 into the match.

Not to be outdone was Evan Jonokuchi in the 145-pound weight class, as he was able to pin Elias Germankos at the 3:07 mark. After nine points by Hackley, Brunswick came right back when Alex Russell picked up the close 5-4 decision over Milo Lempert at the 182-pound weight class.

The Bruins iced the meet when the duo of Matt Marvin, Joe Fervil and Rohan Das each picked up victories over Hackley. Marvin won the 220-pound weight class when he pinned Michael Fess with only 1:25 gone by in the match. Fervil scored six points for Brunswick by picking up the forfeit.

Rounding out the scoring was Das, who netted a major decision victory over Hackley’s Julio Sanchez at the 113-pound weight class.

Brunswick will have little time to rest, as they will battle Trinity-Pawling later today.
