After taking ninth out of 25 schools during Saturday’s Shoreline Invitational, which was held at New Rochelle (N.Y.) High School, the Greenwich High School wrestling team returned to Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference play and blasted Westhill High School Thursday afternoon, 51-21.

Although the Vikings were able to start the meet with three victories, as Yovanny Goris won via pinfall and Martin Chobanyan and Issac Chevron each got decision victories, Greenwich High exploded onto the scene and didn’t look back.

After both Mitchell Nethercot and Erik Menchaca each netted forfeit victories for Big Red, GHS heavyweight Chris Fischer was able to score a pinfall victory over Mark Cotuc at the 1:04 mark of the match. Brandon Aguda kept the good times rolling for Greenwich, as he pinned Denver Dorsainvil 2:38 into the 106-pound weight class.

From there, the Cardinals picked up four more victories to seal the team win. Mike Ceci won the 126-pound weight class with a pinfall over Brendan Chejin at the 1:33 mark.  Alex Jarombek was able to make quicker work over his opponent in the 132-pound division, scoring the pinfall victory at the 42 second mark.

At the 145-pound weight class, Bryce Stanback captured a pin on Dayqwan Dawes at the 5:55 mark of the match. Rounding out the scoring for Greenwich was Jack Freiheit in the 152-pound weight class, as he took the 8-2 decision over Krys Mazur.

The GHS wrestling team traveled to New Rochelle (N.Y) High School Saturday for competition in the Shoreline Invitational and finished ninth.

Big Red had three grapplers medal at the event, all juniors. Aguda competed in the lightweight division and took sixth overall by going 3-2 on the day. Competing in the 182-pound weight class, Thomas Williams took home the bronze for Greenwich and went 3-1 on the day. A few weight classes down was Freiheit, who competed in the 152-pound weight class and took sixth overall by finishing 3-2.

In addition to the three medalists, the Cardinals had four other wrestlers finish top eight. Ceci (126) and Jarombek (132) each took home 3-2 records on the day, while Jack Benenson (120) and Fischer (285) all finished with 2-2 marks.

Greenwich High will be back in action tomorrow morning when it competes at the Xavier Duals.
