Workshop aims to empower girls

The new year could mean a new you for young girls beginning Jan. 12 when world-renowned women’s empowerment coach, author, speaker and TV guest expert Allyson Spellman brings an empowering workshop for young girls to the YMCA.

The “I Love Me!” workshop is designed for girls between the ages of nine and 14 to search inside and love what they find. Presented in a fun and interactive way, tween girls will discover the guideposts of self-love which include self-esteem, self-acceptance and self-worth.

Ms. Spellman is excited to modify her popular women’s empowerment program specifically for the needs of young girls.

“I have been asked for years now to do a workshop to help young girls develop empowering habits and a positive outlook that can last a lifetime,” Ms. Spellman said. “I knew joining forces with The Greenwich Girl would be the perfect match for this inspiring workshop.”

Greenwich native Laura McKittrick, the CEO and founder of the luxury lifestyle brand and digital magazine The Greenwich Girl has already been working with young girls in the area through her “Mini Committee.” Ms. McKittrick was recently approved for The Greenwich Girl after school program which will launch this year. The program will focus on “GG Pearls” (as in wisdom) to being pretty on the inside, not just the outside and the beauty of kindness.

Ms. McKittrick said, “I believe the girls will walk away from the ‘I Love Me!’ workshop feeling comforted, inspired and encouraged by the fact that being a nicer person in general makes you feel better as a whole- one of the many tips they will learn that day.”

As a special bonus, the eco-friendly gift and home décor line Simply Eartha is sponsoring empowering gifts for each attendee. Simply Eartha items are designed to honor the beauty and wisdom of the legendary Eartha Kitt by her daughter, Kitt Shapiro.

The I Love Me! workshop for empowering girls will be held at the YMCA of Greenwich on Sunday, Jan. 12 from noon to 1:30 p.m. For more information visit Space is limited.
