Man busted for church theft

A Bridgeport man is in custody for allegedly stealing the collection plate at St. Catherine of Siena Church.

Angelo Younger, 47, was arrested June 5 and charged with sixth degree larceny in connection with the incident that took place on May 20. According to police, Mr. Younger was taken without incident from his home in Bridgeport and was released from custody on a promise to appear in Stamford Superior Court on June 13.

Mr. Younger allegedly stole the collection money from the Riverside church after morning Mass on May 20. Reports say that between $400 and $500 was stolen but that it appears that none of the money was recovered. Mr. Younger had reportedly been at the church that day looking for money and asking parishioners for help. After the service it was then observed that the collection money was missing from the church’s safe.

St. Catherine’s is located close to Exit 5 of Interstate 95 so it could conceivably have been easy for someone to get onto the highway and away from the scene from there.
