Hear ‘Stories in Sterling’ at silver lecture

On Jan. 6, the holiday season may be over, but there’s a “silver” lining — the Greenwich Antiques Society will present Stories in Sterling: Four Centuries of Silver in New York, a lecture by Margaret K. Hofer, Curator of Decorative Arts at the New York Historical Society.

The Greenwich Antiques Society is pleased to welcome guest lecturer Ms. Hofer, who will discuss the history of silver and its place in society from the 17th through the 20th centuries. Using documented examples from the extensive collection housed at the New York Historical Society, Ms. Hofer will focus on silver’s symbolic meaning, its role in sustaining kinship ties and its ability to convey the ambitions and achievements of its owners.

Admission for non-members of the Greenwich Antiques Society is $20. Space is limited. For reservations and information email [email protected]

The lecture will take place at the Bruce Museum at 1:15 p.m. with refreshments immediately following.
