Greenwich boys basketball beats Harlan County in TECO Coal Commodore Classic

So far, the nearly 11-hour bus ride to Hazard, Kentucky doesn’t feel so bad for the Greenwich High School boys basketball team.

Playing in the opening round of the TECO Coal Commodore Classic, the Cardinals upended Harlan County, 61-48 earlier tonight at Perry Central High School.

Big Red was led by CJ Byrd, as she scored a team-high 21 points. Alex Wolf and Tommy Povinelli each finished with 12 points. Wolf was also dominating underneath the basket, netting nine rebounds and 10 blocked shots. Povinelli also added six assists on the night.

With the victory, Greenwich will look to go 2-0 in the tournament when they play Breahitt County tomorrow. Earlier today, Breahitt County stunned Iacota East, located in Cincinatti, Ohio, with a buzzer beater and 57-55 victory.
