Greenwich High boys basketball team blasts New Canaan, 62-47 [SLIDESHOW]

Playing in front of their home fans to start the season, the Greenwich High School boys basketball didn’t disappoint, as they  ended the first quarter leading 17-9 and upended New Canaan High School, 62-47 last night.

Leading the way for Big Red was senior captain CJ Byrd, who finished with a game-high 27 points. Not far behind Byrd was senior captain Alex Wolf, as the GHS center finished with 17 points, nine rebounds and two blocks.

The duo of Jonathan Palmer and Leonel Hyatt each added six points, while Griffin Golden finished with four.

For New Canaan, both Claude Chandonmet and Andrew Penchuk each finished with a team-high 15 points, while Erik Jager added nine.

With the victory, Greenwich improved to 1-0 on the season, while the Rams fell to 0-1. Big Red will be back in action tomorrow night when they travel to Danbury High School for a game against the Hatters
