Brunswick wrestling team wins thriller over Choate, 34-33

The Brunswick School wrestling team was trailing by 11 heading into the final stretch of its match against Choate Rosemary Hall.

However that’s when the Bruins kicked it up a notch, holding Choate to three points the rest of the way and coming away with the 34-33 victory earlier today.

With Brunswick trailing 33-28, junior Matt Marvin took to the mat in the final match of the day, the 195-pound weight class, needing a pin. That’s exactly what he got, as he pinned Choate’s Charlie Cohen to give the Bruins the thrilling victory.

Brunswick started its run trailing 24-13, as Evan Jonokuchi pinned Dylan Wallace in the 145-pound weight class. Although Choate returned the favor with a pin in the 152-pound weight class, Greg Nabhan came through with a clutch performance and netted the pin in the 160-pound division over Natpit Sethpompo.

In the next weight class, Michael Keating picked up three key points and cut the deficit to 30-28 with a decision victory over Choate’s Ben Birney. However yet again, Choate came through with three more points in the 182-pound weight class to put the score at 33-28 heading into the Marvin’s final match.

Earlier in the match, Joe Fervil won the heavyweight division with a pinfall victory, while Alex Tucker pinned Choate’s Will Keller at the 120-pound weight class. Following Tucker was Jack Jones in the 126-pound division. In the 132-pound division, Jimmy Bell scored a 14-3 major decision over Choate’s Everett Roach.

With the victory, Brunswick upped its overall record to 3-0 on the season.
