Tree lighting showed Byram’s community (and holiday) spirit

FI-Letter-to-the-EditorTo the Editor

At a time when commercialism on one hand and political correctness on the other seem to dampen the true spirit of the season, those 200 of our neighbors who attended the Holiday Tree Lighting at the Byram Shubert Library shared an evening of old-fashioned pleasures.

From the minute Santa was spied walking up Church Street, until the lights on the tree outside the library were all that remained of the festivities, it was a wonderful party for the whole community and provided families the chance to enjoy the spirit of the season.

Guests brought platters and casseroles filled with food ranging from elegant homemade sushi to empanadas, curried rice and kielbasa. Baby strollers, canes and walkers testified to the broad age range.

The open house, sponsored by the Friends of the Byram Shubert Library, demonstrated that neighborliness is alive and well in Byram.
