Brunswick wrestlers beat perennial powers Avon Old Farms, 48-31

In a battle over the top two teams from last weekend’s Canterbury Tournament, the Brunswick School wrestling team scored eight pinfall victories on the day to beat Avon Old Farms 48-31 earlier today.

In fact, all of Brunswick’s points scored was via the pinfall victory. In the 106-pound weight class, Andrew Hennessey beat Carson Drew with a pin at the 1:28 mark of the match. Two weight classes later, Brunswick’s Alex Tucker netted his pinfall win at the 5:33 mark of the match.

The middle of the match was where the Bruins did the damage, as they scored three consecutive pinfall victories. Jimmy Bell started this with his pin only 12 seconds into the 132-pound weight class. Not far behind was Owen Schubert at 138, as he pinned Jack Gaffney 1:33 into the match. Rounding out the streak of 18 points was Evan Jonokuchi, who pinned Luis Consuegra 1:26 into the 145-pound weight class.

Brunswick’s Greg Nabhan followed Bell’s performance by dominating his opponent in the 160-pound division, scoring the pin with only 35 seconds gone by in the match.

It took Alex Russell only 48 seconds to score six points for Brunswick in the 195-pound weight class, as he pinned Jake Lawrence. Rounding out the scoring was Daniel Hughes, who pinned Tyson Bomberry at the 3:12 mark of the match.

The Bruins will be back in action Saturday when they compete at the Loomis Chaffee Holiday Duals in Pool A against Exeter, Northfield Mount Herman and Trinity-Pawling.
