Classical music series for children

music note stockWhat piques a child’s curiosity? The Greenwich Arts Council hopes classical music will be the answer with the introduction of Curiosity Concerts, a free classical music concert series for families with children ages five to eight and their interested siblings.

Curiosity Concerts will present eight free concerts during its inaugural year at different venues in the Greenwich area. All of the concerts will be presented by professional musicians, under one hour, free, interactive and fun.

The concert series is a coalition effort that brings together many organizations involved with music and dedicated to the enrichment of young children. In doing so, concert organizers say they hope to raise the visibility of and support for many arts organizations in Greenwich and the region.

Curiosity Concerts organizer, and wife of an orchestra conductor, Shelly Cryer said, “Our region currently offers few classical music concerts appropriate for young families. Parents committed to exposing their children to live performances often travel to New York City to find quality, age-appropriate music. Curiosity Concerts fill a hole in local music programming.”

The Curiosity Concerts include Caroline Worra, opera, at the Perrot Memorial Library on Dec. 15 at 1 p.m.;  JeeWon Park/Poulenc’s Babar at the Greenwich Library’s Cole Auditorium on Jan. 5, at 2 p.m.; WindSync at Greenwich Library’s Cole Auditorium on Feb. 1 at 2 p.m.; the Greenwich Symphony Orchestra’s Storytime Quartet at the Byram Shubert Library on March 1 at 11 a.m.; Newman and Oltman Guitar at the Greenwich Arts Council on March 30 at 11 a.m. and the Cassatt Quartet, with harp, at The Stanwich School on May 4 at 11 a.m.
